On Set- Mountains of Western Main Pt 2

Another shoot in the western mountains of Maine, following up on the same feature film.  This time I got to go up in the bucket and get some shots of our prop truck.

View from the bucket lift straight down.

Up in the trees

We were pretty blessed with the weather and sun/clouds mix we got in the afternoon.  Spectacular sunset for the last few driving shots we needed to get.

The director finding his shot overlooking a still-frozen Weld Lake with my Epic.

We also had a 2-axis gyro on hand for the driving shots, which was a huge help.  Almost impossible to get the driving shots the week before without it, so glad we had it on hand this trip.  Took me a minute to figure out how to get it up and going, but once we had the gyros running, it worked a beaut.  Strapped it to the roof of my truck for some following shots of the prop cars, as well as in the back for some leading shots.  Light was fantastic, too.

gyro rigged to the roof.

the whole rig, including the bucket lift we used earlier in the day.  It's good to have a truck for shoots like these.

This was the last day of shooting for the production, now headed into post for the next few months.  Can't wait to see this when it's finished sometime this fall, hopefully on a large screen!

On Set- Mountains of Western Main

Just got back from a great weekend shoot in the mountains and woods of western Maine.  It was the first narrative feature film I've worked on (can't share any details on the project as it's still in production).

New Office Space

Finally finished building my new standing desk for the office.  This has been a few months in the works, including a 3 month woodworking class at Portland Adult Ed, which was really helpful.

The Before desk setup.

And a detail shot of the mortise and tendon joinery, which I was pretty excited to learn.

The finished After standing desk.  Wire management still needs to be figured out.

On Set- Storybook Magic

A quick shoot this week with the guys at p3.  They set up an interesting rig for the Epic to shoot straight down from overhead and also be able to rotate 180 degrees for one shot.

The shots were of a story book with the pages turning magically (via some thin thread and After Effects tricks). Looking forward to seeing the finished spot.

On Set- with an Acrobat

Another shoot with my Red Epic last week with the guys at p3. It was a fun shoot with an acrobat from Cirque  du soleil who was awesome.

image.jpg

We had the epic on a jib arm on a dolly/tracks for a lot of the shoot. For glass we used some older Zeiss CP1s (34mm, 50mm and 85mm) and a Nikon 28mm, all closed down a bit to f4.5, ISO 800 and an exact 3200k since all the lighting was with the stage lights at Portland Stage.

image.jpg

The Redmote ended up coming in handy quite a bit while we were doing some dolly shots, as the job was a bit wobbly and it was easier to hit record without adding any shake to the moves.

Requiem For The American Dream Kickstarter Campaign

poster_req.jpg

PF Pictures have begun a Kickstarter campaign for the necessary finishing funds for "Requiem for the American Dream- A Conversation with Noam Chomsky" that I worked on.

They are almost to their goal with 14 days to go, so if the film's message is something you find worthwhile, let them know by contributing.  Help get this important and beautiful film out there!
